The ‘ELLY Appeal’ was originally set up in East London in 2015 to improve the quality of maternal healthcare in the UK and internationally, and became a fully-fledged registered charity in 2020. Dr Ram has been involved since its inception, was a founding member of the charity and serves on Elly’s board of Trustees. Elly has delivered multiple training courses in some of the most deprived and underserved communities around the world.

Elly’s aim is to promote and protect women’s health in the UK and internationally by training and educating healthcare professionals and workers in how to provide optimal care during pregnancy and childbirth, by supporting research excellence in women’s health, and by promoting the application of research in healthcare settings around the world.
