If you have had an abnormal smear result, our Consultant Gynaecologist will take the time to discuss the findings with you and also discuss what the next course of action should be. If a colposcopy examination is required, this may be performed at the same visit.
A Colposcopy is a simple procedure performed to examine the cervix (neck of the womb). This is a simple, painless procedure and takes approximately 10 minutes. The Consultant Gynaecologist will explain the procedure to you beforehand.
A speculum is passed into the vagina and the consultant then visualises the cervix using a special microscope (the Colposcope) whilst "painting" the cervix with a special vinegar-type solution using a small cotton bud. Any abnormal cells will then be stained white. If necessary, a small biopsy of this area may be taken at the same time.
The Consultant will discuss the findings with you immediately. If a biopsy has been performed, the results usually take approximately 2-3 days.
Are you concerned regarding Sexually transmitted Infections (STI's) or Sexually transmitted diseases (STD's)?
At Babyinc we provide a very simple test that takes only a few minutes to perform but will test for a wide range of conditions including Chlamydia:
As it is such a comprehensive test, the results usually take 7 working days. The Consultant will analyse the report and suggest any treatment that may be necessary for you and/or your partner.
